Hi Jeff!  My apologies for the response delay; my team spent last week in Provo with our Qualtrics colleagues, and I’m just now getting back into the swing of things!The team I am part collects experience data from our patients and employees.  While our group is responsible for analyzing the data and creating recommendations for action, as you can imagine there are physicians and HR executives that are in charge of executing on / actioning those findings.  And sometimes, that means that they make the decision not to do so. The most common reason I hear about is “we don’t have the staff / resources to make that change” (for things such as “increase rounding on hospitalized patients”).  Also, low han

🐘 World Wildlife Day | Badge of the Month | March 2024

My favorite animal is the ringtail. They’re local to my area (and can sometimes be found in my trashcans). I know some folks who keep them as pets but I love having them around my property because they are excellent at keeping the rodent population down.      Ok, THIS might be my new favorite animal.  It is the cutest thing ever!!!

My favorite animals are sloths (because I love to sleep) and river otters (they’re so playful!).Plant-wise, I have a soft spot for roses.  My late grandfather had the most beautiful rose garden; try as I might, I can’t replicate it, but I like trying!

🎯 New Year’s Resolutions | Badge of the Month | January 2024

Happy 2024, everyone!Professionally, I want to earn my Qualtrics certifications (I can’t remember if that was my goal last year or not...if it was, I failed at it in 2023).  I’ve worked with Qualtrics across 2 different organizations for the past 5 years, so it is about time I got those certifications.  Personally, I want to change my fitness routine to do what feels best for my body and not what I feel I “should do”.  I love dancing through Zumba, but I have a hard time recovering afterwards.  I’m thinking 2024 brings more stretching and flexibility classes.

I’m only aware of AUA in the brand environment (literally just had a conversation about it yesterday with my Qualtrics team), so not sure this will be helpful, but I thought I’d provide a comment about it anyway. Our use case was going to be to have it help us categorize “unaided awareness” entries into buckets.  I believe it is what is recommended on brand programs, but we needed a little more control than it offered (it reminded me a bit of fuzzy lookup in Excel so it got things “wrong” for us).  Ergo, we are sticking with our TextIQ coding, but it’s worth an explore for whatever you’re working on as it does help lower the lift of the project!

❄️ Favorite Holidays | Badge of the Month | December 2023

I am enjoying hearing about everyone’s food and traditions! My favorite holiday is NYE/New Year’s Day.  When I was a kid, we would relax and play games/watch movies all day, and my mom used to fill the table with all sorts of snacks for the day - popcorn munch mix, fruit salad, veggie tray, pigs in a blanket, and so many desserts! But my favorite of all is the “bite size pizza” she would make; italian sausage, velveeta, spices, then spooned onto rye party loaf and toasted until everything was warm and gooey and delicious. I have carried this tradition on with my family and everyone seems to just enjoy the day(s) of slowing down and just having fun together.  Good way to ring in the fresh, new year!

👻 Spooky Season | Badge of the Month | October 2023

I would have said I’m not into spooky/scary things...but then I wanted to respond to multiple of the questions.  So maybe I am?  Spooky movie/TV show?Like many others on this thread, we watched Wednesday as a family and thoroughly enjoyed.  My kids also look forward to watching the Hocus Pocus and Goosebumps movies in October. My husband’s favorite movie of all time is Cabin in the Woods, so we’ll usually watch that.  That about the limit of what I can tolerate.   I am an escape room nerd (31 and counting) and so I usually rewatch the two “Escape Room” movies this month  They’re classified as horror but because they deal with a subject I like, they somehow don’t feel too scary to me?Spooky book? I am also a Stephen King fan.  This year I read Fairy Tale, but I think my favorite of his is The Stand.  I’ve read it 5 times and enjoy it more each time (although I will admit, this book took on a new depth when I read it at the beginning of the COVID pandemic). Can’t wait to pick up his late

👻 Spooky Season | Badge of the Month | October 2023

I love this time of year! Something my family and I will do to celebrate the spooky season will be to go to Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash. My wife and I went last year to see how it was, and we were blown away with how fun it was! They close the park down and let you trick or treat with lots of Disney villains, all while being able to go on the rides with reduced wait times and enjoy everything else there is to offer! We’ll take our two children this time around and are excited for my daughter to experience trick or treating for the first time!  So jealous!  This is on my bucket list - I’ll go one day!  Please enjoy...and maybe share a picture or two once you’re back!  :)

XM Communi-tea Poll: How many customer experience surveys should you send? 🫖Poll

Like many others, I am not sure how to vote because “it depends” (I think we’re seeing a theme here)!At my previous employer, we’d recommend our clients send out relationship surveys once a year and pulse surveys quarterly or bi-annually (depending on how quickly they could take action on those relationship results). I now work in healthcare, and we utilize transactional surveys (after scheduling appointments to gauge happiness with appointment time availability, after an encounter to gauge experience with that, etc).  We do have a limit of 1 survey per month per patient, but potentially some patients might get 12 surveys a year if they’re utilizing our services a lot.  We do monitor for complaints of “over-surveying”, and don’t really see any!  At least in healthcare, people generally want to tell you how you can help make it better for them!   We are in the process of implementing a relationship survey as well, and that would only be sent once a year. 💫 Hidden Talents | Badge of the Month | September 2023

Not sure if these are talents but….I love Disney (see August badge discussion 😊 ) - ergo I am a wealth of Disney knowledge.  I’d say my “biggest talent” is helping friends and family plan trips - I know all the tips and tricks to hopefully help them have a great time!  Secondarily, I know a lot of Disney movie trivia.   Growing up, I did a lot of theater and show choir.  I was thrilled that my daughters went that route as well.  My talent is that I’m a great stage mom - I have a “mom bag” that basically has anything we might need on performance day!  You need safety pins or bobby pins or an extra pair of tights or a hair tie or a Tylenol or a bottle of water...I’ve got it!  (Yep, this one is totally a stretch as a talent...but I’ve found it useful on more than one occasion so I’m counting it!)

💡 XM Community Learnings | Badge of the Month | July 2023

What have I learned from XM Community?  A lot!  I am constantly amazed at the custom code solutions.  I am not the one who primarily programs surveys in my organization, but I do help out from time to time.  I don’t stress about doing it, because I know if I run into an issue there will likely already be a discussion on it that I can pull from (and if not - this group will KNOW how to solve). I’m a data analyst, so I have enjoyed hearing how other people treat/analyze data.  Most recently, I posed a question about how frequently to be looking for speeders/straightliners.  I had only been doing that analysis with our branding survey that uses panel data, but now am probably going to implement for at least our employee survey as well (because honestly, the desire to “speed through” is nearly universal so I shouldn’t be limiting where I look for that). So long story short - I feel like XM Community helps me keep up-to-date with best practices and helps me do my job better!

Frequency of employee surveys

We run an annual engagement, plus quarterly pulses that are a subset of questions from the annual survey (plus an additional 1-2 questions if there have been major changes the employees would be feeling). Since we’re recycling questions from the engagement it isn’t too much of a lift to run.  The most important thing to making sure this frequency doesn’t feel like a “burden” though, is making sure you are communicating to employees what actions you are taking from the survey results.  As long as they can see true listening and action planning is taking place, my experience is that they’ll continue to give you feedback when you ask for it.  On the other hand, if their responses just go into a vacuum and they don’t hear how you are using the data, they will be less likely to give you feedback in the future.Also, I really like the suggestion given above - for an always on type listening post that is available for employees to respond to at their own convenience.

📚️ Straightlining and Speeding | Basecamp Wednesdays | June 21st 2023

I love this topic.  I would love to get others’ feedback on what they do on the following:Is it a good idea to do this assessment for all surveys?  I typically only do it with panel data, where people might be getting rewarded for taking the survey and therefore not motivated to answer thoughtfully.  I typically don’t do it with our patient or employee surveys because if those folks are responding, it is typically because they have valid feedback to give.   For straightlining, in practice, do you usually look at “did they give the same answer to every survey question” or just look at the responses in the matrices?   Speeding - I typically look at what is 2-3 standard deviations below “average take time” and drop those out.  What do others do?In practice, I have never seen a huge change from dropping the speeders/straightliners, but I definitely feel better about the cleanliness of the data!

Which benchmarks to use?

@EricCrayon101 - that’s a great resource, thanks!  I wasn’t quite sure myself what the difference between 75th percentile favorable and 75th percentile average was! Given the definitions you showed us above, I would say to @G_Reed that in my experience, using the “favorable” percentiles is the preferred approach if you are reporting top-2 box scores in your organization.  When I was in the market research world, most of my clients (I’d say 95% or more) used this choice for their benchmarking efforts.It will be up to you to decide whether 50th percentile or 75th percentile or 90th percentile, etc, is right for you (but again, as stated above, 90th percentile is usually considered the “stretch” goal or something that probably shouldn’t be aimed for right away).  Hope this is helpful.  Good luck!

What's the best way to match up a person's pre-test and post-test using different surveys?

For surveys where we are not collecting personal data, yet want to match responses across time, we often add a question in the pre-survey that has the respondent create their own unique ID that no one else would know. For example, we may ask them to create an ID that represents the month of their birthday, the first two letters of their mom’s name, and then the last two digits of their zip code.  If someone has an August birthday, a mother named Mary, and lives in 55555 then their unique ID becomes 08MA55. You then prompt them with a question in the “post” survey to enter their unique ID, reminding them of the criteria used to create it.Hope this helps in your scenario!

🌎️ World Environment Day | Badge of the Month | June 2023

My favorite place on earth is Walt Disney World.  I debated on whether or not to put this because I wasn’t sure if the answer was in the spirit of the question.  But when I thought about it, Disney as a company has been very transparent in their mission of reducing emissions, sustainability, conservation (via their Animal Kingdom theme park), and waste reduction (if you’ve been to a park lately you know they've completely eliminated plastic straws and stirrers).  So I felt it was an appropriate answer.  :) Personally, we will continue composting, growing some of our own herbs/vegetables, and recycling!

Survey Frequency Advice

I’m in healthcare, and we have a 30-day touch rule.  So, if I see my PCP in his office and I haven’t received a survey in the past 30 days, I get a survey on that transaction/experience.  But if 2 weeks later, I go to the emergency room, I do NOT receive a survey on that experience because I’ve already received a survey within the past month.   Just as an FYI, we settled on this approach because patients are already getting appointment reminders and forms to fill out from us, so we want to be considerate of how often we’re sending them communications in general.  We have been using this touch rule for 3 years with no complaints.

I can now confirm I ran the 5k on Saturday and I can now confirm that I could hardly move yesterday and it’s even worse today. But I’ll take it any day for this wonderful cause! All the best -Broken-Mattias I both hate and love when that happens.  I like knowing I worked hard and that’s why my body is so sore….but also, being uncomfortable is no fun!  Way to go on finishing it!!!

Confidentiality concerns: Does brand administrator have access to my data

I believe that with an anonymous link, the brand admin would be able to see the survey and data but there would be no personal information for the respondents attached to it (unless you ask for name, email, phone or something in the survey itself).

Looking to benchmark, what timeframe (30/60/90 days) are you deploying onboarding surveys?

As others have mentioned, it will likely depend on your onboarding process.  You’ll want to send when the onboarding is still fresh in the employee’s head.  Typically, I recommend 30 days if that makes sense for you, then again at the 6 month mark to make sure things are still going well.
