Personally, my resolution is to be more present in my life and to listen more. Professionally, it’s to continue to expand my skills, especially with coding (SQL and Python), and to get better with data visualization!
I’m broadly thankful to all of the insights that the Qualtrics community helps me bring to my organization and bring people along on the CX journey. Customer experience is a new thing in government, and many of my colleagues have a dose of skepticism about whether it will be a lasting practice, and how they can use it to improve the effectiveness of their work. Thanks especially to @Isabelle_Zdatny and @JamesScutt for always being eager to discuss the challenges and opportunities in reorienting a group around giving customers the best experience possible-and have a wonderful holiday season!

Thanks to @AmaraW for a great topic this month! It makes one’s work more fulfilling to be able to link it to other talents or pursuits. For me, this is also painting -- and since I do so much data visualization, I like to include dataviz in my work. This helps me hone my skills because often, in visualizing data, we assume that our audiences are comfortable seeing data online or interactively, but that’s not necessarily the case. Not everyone is comfortable with (or even has) access to a computer to be able to see data rendered electronically, and sometimes the artfulness of the visualization makes the visual so complicated that it’s hard to understand.This is one of my favorites, of one of my favorite singers, the incomparable and ageless Debbie Harry of Blondie. When I think of music to be productive to, I often don’t think of songs so much as albums or general sounds. Best thing I learned in tbe past year? A lot of good insight into how to bring colleagues aboard the customer experience mindset in terms of communications, messaging, talking points, and best practices. CX is underway in the federal government space but it’s a very new concept for many product owners here!
My favorite places are often near water, able to be at peace and to share them with loved ones. I just discovered this one, on the shore of the tidal Potomac River near where we live in Virginia. This picture, which I took last weekend, was deeply evocative and peaceful when I saw it for the first time in the middle of a long hike. I’ve joined this years virtual team in honor of my sister, Erin Korengold, who lost her battle to lymphoma in 2020. I miss her dearly and in her honor, will make 50 swings in a batting cage this month. Working at the National Institutes of Health, where committed scientists find cures for so many diseases, I’m happy to see the work that 5 for the Fight does for cancer research, especially at institutions like Howard University. As @krbhavya mentioned above, piped text and display logic is a good choice if you don’t code. It depends on what you are trying to do:If you want to display a question based on responses to earlier questions (for example: if question 1 is “what is your favorite major league sport” and for question 2 you want the respondent to choose their favorite football team, if they chose “football”, you can set up display logic to only display question 2 if the response to question 1 is “football”. You can use this to create similar but different questions; so for example, question 3 in the sequence could ask about baseball players, if the respondent chose “baseball” as their favorite sport, question 4 if the respondent chose “cricket”, and so on.Piped text is a little bit different--it can fill in specific fields with text from previous responses or embedded data. What I most appreciate about Qualtrics and its related communities is -- true to this year's XM Institute theme -- its rooting in the fundamental importance of empathy in how we deal with our customers, clients, stakeholders, and each other.
Beginning last year, I adopted the practice of using a vision board to manifest what I hope to accomplish during the year, both personally and professionally. Here is my 2023 vision board for my work. (These are my overall aspirations--I also have specific, project-based goals for which I'm accountable.) I'm grateful for a number of things this month, including my health, my family, and the fact that I'm in a line of work that allows me to both teach and learn. (And of course, very appreciative of LauraW, Michael_Cooksey, BruceT, and so many others who make this community sing.)I'm also grateful to live in a democracy where we have the power to choose the people who will represent us. No matter your political persuasion, it's important to cast your ballot, like I did yesterday!
