I love that Qualtrics makes things easy for me! I never had formal training in Qualtrics (I had been using it a couple years before I discovered Basecamp) but because there are so many easily accessible features, I was able to run plenty of surveys and gather feedback in different circumstances.As my use of Qualtrics has changed over the years, I appreciate the community sharing their own experiences. I’ve learned lots from other users and the creative ways they’ve approached some of our shared challenges.

I am thankful for all the opportunities I’ve had within Qualtrics over the past year! I came back to work in May after maternity leave and it was so wonderful to have monthly product release notes to catch me up on what I’d missed, and then I have had the opportunity to meet regularly with our Customer Success Manager to discuss how Qualtrics can better meet the needs of our organisation.It’s been awesome to have regular ongoing conversations so that I feel like I can contribute to how Qualtrics can improve and provide tailored solutions in different contexts.

👻 Spooky Season | Badge of the Month | October 2023

This is such an interesting thread to read! Here in Australia we don’t really celebrate Halloween, or at least we never did when I was a kid. These days it’s becoming increasingly popular though for kids.I’m excited to take my 1yr old son to a local Halloween parade that is happening at the end of the month. I am hoping if we go before it gets dark, it won’t be too spooky for him (or me!)

I’m also keen to hear more about sending to a personal email address (lifecycle or otherwise) - will this allow sending of the same survey link to both a personal email and another email address without the possibility of duplicating responses (i.e. they are considered as one respondent rather than two)?This functionality is sorely lacking in the student feedback space (Qualtrics Course Evaluations) so it would be exciting to see it being delivered in one part of the platform, so hopefully we can see it in other places soon!

💡 Create an Idea | Evolve

Hi team, I upvoted a bunch of ideas yesterday (catching up on lost time from when we had no option for product ideas!) but I have noticed today that half of the votes haven’t appeared and I definitely haven’t gotten as many emails as I expected. Do I really have to keep track of all the Idea IDs and just keep upvoting every day until it “sticks”? Or is this just going to mean I give multiple upvotes to the same idea (I mean I’m fine with adding extra weight behind the really important ones but I don’t think that’s the way the system is meant to work)?Or is there a way for someone to actually look at the activity and confirm which ones did (and didn’t) work?

I love how survey creation can be so simple and user friendly, but there's also options for more advanced inclusions if you've got the time and know-how to play around with it. And the Community is always a good source of advice on how to really get the most out of it!I've recently had to introduce colleagues to survey building and reporting in Qualtrics and so many features are straightforward, point-and-click options that they're feeling confident in no time.

How do I acitvate a Widget with text IQ?

Hi Andi,Did you make sure to import the responses into Text iQ in your dashboard settings? Under Settings - Text you should be able to import responses with a blue button that tells you how many responses you have to import. If you configured your Text iQ topics within your survey project, you will need to configure them again within the dashboard Text iQ configuration before they will be available for reporting in the dashboard. Customized End of Survey after Redirecting to a Second Survey

It's a bit of a curly one but have you checked the language of both your survey and your custom end of survey message?Qualtrics has a unique quirk that English US and English UK are considered completely separate languages (not just two versions of English). Here in Australia it's a common problem because I like to use English UK but my colleagues often use English US as the default. If there's a language mismatch, the survey will default to the standard EOS message rather than the custom one that you specified.

Embedding Videos into Questions

Elana_Cole can you please post the HTML that you are using and finding this problem? It will help us to see what might be happening.I expect it will be Qualtrics trying to dynamically size the video for you to suit the screen size of the respondent (and it may not be working the way you'd like!). There are some HTML settings you can play around with to lock some of those values and prevent dynamic adjustments.

How to make sure the survey is done by the language (Spanish) I want ?

esa as Mishraji mentioned above, many browsers will allow a user to translate the page so that it can be viewed in another language.I notice you're using anonymous links but would it be feasible to use personalised links? If so, you can assign a user language through the contact list to set the language as Spanish. This can overcome the need for the language in the URL (and the possibility that a respondent could remove the language variable). Unfortunately it still won't fix the issue of browsers translating what Qualtrics presents though.

Hi vidartop, check your recode values as that might be what is causing the problem. On the left-hand side of the question under Question Behaviour you can select Recode Values. Sometimes the automatic assignment by Qualtrics gets out of whack but you can tick Recode Values in the pop up and then change the output for each one to whatever you want :)

🌏️ Summer Travels | Badge of the Month | June 2021

It's just reached winter here in Australia and I'm definitely dreaming of summer! I've got a few favourite spots around Australia but I'm currently dreaming of travelling anywhere at the moment...My next trip is off to Tasmania but that will be freezing cold and maybe even snowing in just a few short weeks. I'll keep an eye this chain for some warm inspiration though!

How to create a drop down with different dates, in which today’s date is automatically pre-selected.

You can use Default Choices and use today's date in there (as one of the preset piped text fields). Alternatively you can use one of the inbuilt Qualtrics questions to have a calendar type question, and from memory it defaults to today's date. I know I've done it previously but it was a few years ago now and can't remember if that was a setting to make it default to today (using default choices mentioned above), or whether it was automatically the default!Both of the above options will be changing the question from your current drop down setup. Third option allows you to keep your current drop down but you could use Embedded Data in your Survey Flow to capture today's date, and then in your default choices options, you could set the default choice to be that embedded data field. Provided they both have the same date format, it should work the way you are looking at.Hope these options help!

How to auto-populate email based on user name

Hi Mahua, How are you distributing your form? If you are using Qualtrics email (or personalised links through another email client) to distribute it, Qualtrics will already know your recipients and when they open the form you can use Eembedded Data in the Survey Flow to capture their name and email for use in your survey project. You can display the email address (and name if you wish) back to recipients as Piped Text in the survey. This assumes that the user name and email belong to the person completing the form. Alternatively (and regardless of whether the email and user name belong to your survey respondent), is the user name the beginning of the email (I.e. User name 'smith7' becomes email 'smith7@domain.com')? If so, you could use embedded data again to record the answer choice for your first question (Embedded Data field called User name) and then a second embedded data field where you add that with the domain to make the email (so Embedded Data field User email that is equal to

Create Calculated Field for Use as Piped Data?

You could use branch logic and embedded data for that in your Survey Flow. After your first question, set a branch that says If Q1 answer is A, add embedded data for Restaurant as "Yummy Dining Hall". Then set another branch if Q1 answer is B, display Q2 to ask them for their off-campus restaurant then add embedded data for Restaurant which is piped text for the answer choice in Q2. Then in your eggs question, you would simply use the embedded data field Restaurant as piped text and it will contain whichever option they selected. This assumes only one answer choice for Q2 though. Otherwise you might need to look at Loop & Merge if you want to ask about the eggs at each of the restaurants they select.

Mine is not a historical figure but rather a family member - my great grandfather. He died when my grandfather was a teenager but I have always felt a strange connection to him. He fought in World War 2 and I'm sure would have some amazing stories to tell.

Is it possible with a date question-type to force the respondent to pick a date in the future?

Is it always a standard 2 weeks? If so, you may not need to even ask respondents to select a date. You can pipe an embedded data field with the current date (for your reference) and then the calculated date of 14 days from the day they complete the survey. You can then use piped text to simply display this to the respondent as Deadline Date is ${e://Field/DeadlineDate}.Credit for this solution and more information available at this Qualtrics community post and this post from Ohio State University. The solution from Ohio State University also shows you can have multiple dates - if it's not a set 2 weeks you could even calculate a few different dates and just let your respondents select their preferred date from a list (e.g. 12 days, 13 days, 14 days after submission could be 3 answer choices in a multiple choice question for them to pick from).

Filter out Blank Verbatim Responses from Record Grid

Hi all,Just to follow on from this question - is there a way to toggle this on and off for users? For example, I want to configure it such that by default my record grid only shows responses where the open text questions are not blank, but I also want them to have the option to remove the filter. If I leave the filter as not locked, as far as I can tell users can change the entire advanced filter which is not what I want. I want to set the fields for the advanced filter and just let users turn it on or off.Any suggestions appreciated!Cheers, Ashleigh

Feeling very jealous now! Here in the southern hemisphere, it's currently Autumn (Fall) and we're about to head into winter. I think I need to put some Spring songs on my playlist to keep me going with light at the end of the tunnel! The song Catch My Disease by Ben Lee just came up on my playlist and it feels like an appropriate song for something cheery and bouncy to get me through. After a week of rain, the sun is shining today and I'm going to make the most of warm weather while I can :)

Auto-populating a response in a side by side question

Not a simple solution that does exactly what you want, but I have a couple of suggestions that might help without needing to get too complicated!Option 1 - Split into two questionsThis would mean one multiple choice question saying "which of these activities did you complete?". You can then use Carry Forward to only display those lines in the side-by-side for hours/minutes. This means if they didn't complete one of the activities, they won't be asked for time used.Option 2 - Request response (or disable force response)I am assuming you are expecting that all respondents will answer all fields (either with a number or Not applicable). You can turn on Force Response that will make the respondent answer all questions, or you can use Request Response instead if you want to encourage completion of most fields. This simply adds a pop up for the respondent that says "You have not answered ___ questions" (with the number of Request Response questions that are not fully completed). It does mean

Sharing Survey Links

Thanks for the extra info Ryan! I definitely agree that the issue is the anonymous link.Is there a reason you want to send multiple links in the same email? The solution I'm imagining would be that you have an anonymous link and you send that out, along with a list of the "Customer Name" values that the sales manager needs to work on. Then in your survey, you build an authenticator at the start of the survey and that's where you split the responses based on the "Customer Name" value. You can set it such that respondents have to authenticate each time they return to the survey (that will mean that each time they access it, they have to enter the Customer Name, and the survey will show existing progress there). This would work exactly the same for the customer - when the sales manager is ready, they simply send the customer the same anonymous link and the "Access code" which is actually the "Customer Name" from your contact list.I also think the retake link solution could be a possibilit
