What is a Block in Qualtrics?

A Block is a set of questions within your survey. When you create a new survey, Qualtrics automatically creates a Default Question Block containing an empty question.

What is a Randomizer?

A Randomizer is an element in your Survey Flow that can be used to randomize other elements such as Blocks, Embedded Data, and Groups.

How do I create a new Block?

Click the "Add Block" text underneath your current Block.

How do I rename a Block?

Click on the Block's current name in the top left corner and type new text in the text box.

 

Question Randomization

 

How do I randomize questions within a Block?

Click on the Block you want to edit, then use the Block Behavior section on the left-hand side to set your randomization preferences.

What randomization options are available for questions within a Block?

You can choose from:

  • No randomization
  • Randomize all questions
  • Present a certain subset of questions
  • Customize display using Advanced Randomization

What features does Advanced Randomization offer?

Advanced Randomization allows you to:

  • Set a fixed order for certain questions
  • Select which specific questions will be randomized
  • Create subsets of questions to be randomly displayed
  • Exclude certain questions from randomization
  • Control the number of questions displayed on each page

How do I save my question randomization settings?

Click the Save button after making your selections.

 

Block Randomization

 

How do I randomize Blocks in my survey?

Navigate to the Survey Flow, add a Randomizer element by clicking "Add a New Element Here" and selecting the Randomizer option. Then drag the Blocks you want to randomize underneath the Randomizer element.

How do I move Blocks under a Randomizer?

Hover over the "Move" text on the Blocks you wish to randomize, then click and drag them underneath the Randomizer element.

What options are available when randomizing Blocks?

You can choose:

  • How many elements to display
  • Whether to evenly present elements (ensuring each element appears an equal number of times)
