mailing list automatic deduplicate

I am using this call https://ca1.qualtrics.com/API/v3/mailinglists/{mailingListId}/contacts and importing contacts very nicely. However, a person appears to have to manually go in and consolidate duplicates. Is there any way to have the API deduplicate automatically?

Yes!
In "Directories Setting", go to "Automatic Deduplication", enable the fields based on which you want the duplication to be applied.

Yes!

You have to have XM according to that link. We do not have XM. I am going to take this as a no for my situation. Thank you though.
