Audio file stops loading and error message | XM Community

I have been uploading audio files to enable Qualtrics to be accessible for a survey aimed at people with intellectual disabilities.

I have been uploading the audio files and they are saved in the Qualtrics library.  However, one (184KB) has the error message ‘ This plug in is not supported.’

Can anyone advise why this error has only just occured?

Hello, TWARREN

The error "This plug-in is not supported" typically means the audio file format you uploaded is not natively supported by the respondent's web browser.

  1. Use MP3 Format: Qualtrics strongly recommends converting your audio files to the MP3 format for the widest support across all modern web browsers. (WAV is also supported, but files are larger).

  2. Fix the Error:

    • Check: Verify your audio file is in MP3 format.

    • Convert & Re-upload: If not, convert the file to MP3 using an audio converter and re-upload it to your Qualtrics library.

  3. Best Practice (External Hosting): For maximum accessibility and to completely bypass browser compatibility issues, consider hosting your audio file on an external service (like SoundCloud) and embedding it in the survey using a URL or HTML iframe.

Testing your survey in multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) after re-uploading the MP3 file is always recommended.
