Authenticator and Random ID | XM Community

Hello!

I have a 15-day intervention study. Pre-intervention, participants will be randomly assigned to Group A or B and are asked to write down their assigned ID. For the next 15 days, both groups access a second link, signing in with their assigned ID. On the last day of the study, both groups access a third link, also login in with their ID.

My set up currently is this:
Survey 1: Random ID in survey flow + Contact list with Random ID in workflow
Survey 2: Authenticator using embedded data from the Contact list with Random ID’s
Survey 3: Authenticator using embedded data from the Contact list with Random ID’s

Somehow, the authenticator does not fully work. Sometimes, it recognises an ID and lets me sign in as a test participant; sometimes, it does not - therefore, it is not reliable.

I cannot use email addresses or phone numbers due to anonymity.

Has anyone else had this problem before? I would appreciate any guidance. Thank youuuu! 🙏🏻

Note, even with “Pre-fill” enabled, it does not work.

Hi @pineapple

First thing to check would be that you don’t have contacts with duplicate External Data Reference values in your directory and if the deduplication rules for your directory might impact the contact creation.

Also, if you’re testing multiple times with the same contact, be sure to check “Allow authenticating respondents to retake authenticated section” in your authenticator’s options while you’re testing.

Thank you @vgayraud ! 😊

Do you have key word for this, as I could not find any advice online

Regarding the second point, thank you, I have that turned on!

See these sections of the support site:

One explanation to your problem could be that you could have deduplication set on the email address and that you’re using the same placeholder in your workflow, recreating over and over the same contact.

You could pipe in ${e://Field/Random%20ID}@email.com as email value when you create your workflow to avoid that.

Thank you so much!! That seemed to have worked! I deleted my old contact list and tried

and that works!

I read that when distributing a link I can add a query string, for each of the 3 links - would that make a difference?

You can indeed pass arguments by appending a query string at the end of a survey link. I’m not sure how it could help in your situation though, you’re probably using generic anonymous links.

You’re right, I do use anonymous links, it probably doesn’t make sense then. Thanks so much!!!
