Although I am following all the step-by-step instructions to delete some responses, when I select them and click on the trash can and “I am sure I want to delete…”, there is a message of “1 request pending” for some time. Then it disappears, but the responses I wanted to delete are still there. Am I doing something wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong. Did you try refreshing your account?

Click the circle on the top right with your initial, then click 'Refresh account'.

This, and similar answers about refreshing the browser, clearing cookies, etc. make no sense. Qualtrics is in complete control of the web interface that they present to the user. If a particular operation, such as deleting a response, requires a refresh of the account, they can do that. If it requires a browser page reload, they can do that, too.
