Hello! A quick question: does anybody has any advice about how to ask for individual income in a survey on Qualtrics? We asked individuals to enter an amount (like '25500') in the past but it did not work very well: some entered 25 instead of 25,000, some seem to have entered a random amount probably because they did not think we should have asked that.
Income bands only? Slider? I am leaning towards bands, and then a slider that has the range of the chosen band, with the option not to answer. What are your views? And more specifically is there a way to adapt the min and max of a slider based on a response to a previous question? Thank you so much!

Hello!

Unless you need very precise information, best practice would be to use bracket categories with a MC question and should include a “Prefer not to answer” choice.

Qualtrics library or certified questions have examples of that type of questions.

As far as I know, there is no native way to dynamically assign the range of a slider. That would require javascript customization, either directly on a slider question, or maybe more easily done by adding a slider with html and css to a text input question. In both cases, it might be a good idea to assign a larger step value than 1 to the slider: it can be infuriating to try to select precisely a given value on a slider ranging from 0 to say, 250,000.
