Piped Text Question Regarding Survey Invitations | XM Community

Can a value from a custom embedded data field in from a survey be used as piped text in survey invitation created via a distribution list?

When I send preview messages, the value for the custom embedded field does not appear, instead the piped text code appears. In my testing nothing populates where the value should be. Neither the value nor the piped text code.

So, my conclusion is that you cannot use this data because there are no responses to the survey yet. The value I want is located in an embedded data field at the beginning of my survey.  I had hoped to use a library message with piped text, so I could reuse a message that has one small piece of text that changes each time I use it. Can someone confirm?

Hello @MargaretW,

You can utilize "Embedded Variables" as piped text in the survey invite. Please let me know which data you're mapping—whether it's from the form directory or from survey questions.

Please note that "Piped text" will not populate in preview emails. For more information on this, you can refer to the link provided.

I would suggest distributing one email to yourself and then testing it.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Sachin,

It’s not from the directory is custom text values of  custom embedded data added as part of the survey flow before any of my question blocks. The survey pertains to courses, and I wanted to add the course name in using piped text. I did distribute one email to myself and the value did not appear in the message, nor did the piped text code.  This process works when I have an survey response set to trigger invitation to a follow up survey, but I believe it is because the recipients have already completed an initial survey. Thanks.
