Switching between translations during taking the survey

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Hello fellow-users!

My survey is translated into 3 languages. The respondents have an opportunity to switch between languages anytime during the filling in of the survey.

But is there a way for me to see in which language they were reading the most? Because, if I understand it correctly, in the data file I can only see the language they were using when pressing the submit button.

Is there a way to track if they were switching at all or which language they preferred while responding?

My thesis advisor is concerned that the data is less reliable because I don’t know in which language the filled it in and if they even understood all the questions correctly (my thesis is about language learning, so this issue is quite important).

Thanks in advance for your help!

There are ways to track the language, however, considering this is essential, I wouldn’t recommend adding and javaScript or other tracking measures that could possibility contaminate your data.

Here’s my suggestion, instead of having three languages in one survey, make three different surveys - one for each language. Create a fourth survey, in which you ask people which language they want to take the survey in, then using branches and redirects, send them to the survey of the desired language.

This way you can ensure that the language was the same from start to finish.

Thank you for the response and the tip, I will definately use it in the future.

Unfortunately this situation is about the survey that has already been filled in by the participants, so I can’t change it anymore. But I’d like to know if there is an opportunity to see the most used language if he survey is already finished.

At this point you can’t. You can only see what the language was when the survey was completed.

Also, there is no need to create separate surveys in the future. You can have the respondent select a language from a multiple choice question on the first page and not allow them to change it. See this.
