How do I conditionally display a message based on a user’s multiple-choice answer? (i.e. take them to a “your answer is correct” message, or “try again” message.) Do I do that through question validation? Or set up branch logic and blocks in every question? I’m not sure what’s the best way to do this in Qualtrics?

The best way to achieve this is using validation. So, what you can do here is create validation and show error message until they select the correct answer.
