How do I select/deselect respondents to take through to a .csv file.

If you are talking about exporting the answer data into a CSV file from the Data & Analysis tab, you can set up a filter based on survey metadata, contact fields, or embedded data.
You can also set up these filters in the Reports tab

    If your are talking distribution you can include a flag or other variable in the csv file and after you import create a sample on the data matching the flag you are looking for.
