Matrix response items disappearing

Hi. I've encountered a new problem (for me) when using Matrix items. We are using 7-point scales, and in preview the final items (e.g. Strigly Agree) are not showing but have to be revealed using a scroll bar (i.e. the question is too wide for the page). Obviously this will bias responses if there are options users don't automatically see). I have reset the width of the item space on the left to make it narrower, but this doesn't "stick". That is, I solve the problem initially, but when I go back to the survey later the width has reset to something wider and the scroll bar problem returns (but only for some matrix questions). I'm really not sure what's going on. But I guess the main question is if there's a way to force the question to not use scrollbars, and have Qualtrics automatically reset the item width instead?
