No display logic in side-by-side questions?

I'm building a side-by-side question with a drop-down list question on the left and open ended text on the right. I can't seem to get the option for setting up a display logic for the drop-down list items. In fact, I have trouble reliably getting options for the items in general - sometimes I can only get the Rich Content Editor choice, sometimes the Exclude From Analysis choice, but never the full menu one usually gets when selecting a response option. The instability coupled with the fact that item display logic can be applied to matrix drop-down lists hints at a bug - anyone know what's up? ! or !
