Track Unique ID's entered in survey

We have a study where the recruiters are assigning unique ID's (outside the Qualtrics system) to possible respondents. The respondents receive an anonymous link, enter the unique ID in the first question and confirm the unique ID in the second question. The issue is we are getting duplicate unique ID's in the completed data.
Is there a way to track the unique ID's that have already been entered for completed surveys, so someone else can't enter that same ID and complete the survey?

You should consider this approach:

  1. The recruiters complete a short survey where they enter the unique id and any other contact information. That survey has a contact trigger or workflow that adds the contact to a Qualtrics contact list where the unique id is the External Data Reference.

  2. Add an Authenticator to the beginning of your survey so the respondent enters their unique id (External Data Reference) to start the survey.
