Configuring a Directory Workflow to Send a Survey to New Mailing List Contacts

Long ago, I remember using contact list triggers to send a survey to only new contacts on a mailing list when they are added.  Now that triggers have been replaced by workflows, I cannot figure out how to get the survey to distribute only to the contacts I’ve just added to the list, rather than the whole list. I’m using the Experience id change to initiate the workflow when a new contact is added to a mailing list and the send survey via email task.  Would the answer be to create segments on the list?  Also I realize that I could just create separate distributions for each of these, but I would rather have a single list. I’ve attached a screenshot.

Hi,

In your email task, select “piped text” instead of an XM Directory as the sources. Then, you can specify the right “type” according to your use case.

Hi ​@MargaretW ! I found a  support page that might be helpful for cases like yours where the trigger point is related to Experience ID: https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/actions-page/events/experience-id-segments-events/ .

While my specific trigger was importing files via SFTP, I've had success recently by adding the “contacts and transactions to XMD”  step before distributing the survey. Additionally, in the "Send a survey via email" settings, I selected a transaction group for distribution, which ensured that the survey was sent only to new contacts. I believe that a similar logic is described in the support page I shared previously.

Anastasia and Vincent! Thank you both.  Vincent, that’s exactly what I was looking for. On workflows that are created in the workflows portions of Qualtrics or through the workflows option in a specific project, I was able to find that much easier than before. Thanks. You’ve helped me twice recently!

Anastasia, did you have to set up a specific Transaction Group? Or once you selected Transaction Group it automatically sent to any new from that SFTP file?

@grbottcher by using the workflow shown in my screenshot, in the T-ID 3 step, you will be to configure to whom this survey will go. So, one of the available options is to send the survey to contacts that were added at the T-ID 2 step. Then, by selecting “Transaction group” , the survey goes to the new contacts only. 
So you can have one dedicated contact list in your directory and send surveys only to new contacts.
