What is Basecamp Wednesdays?

Every Wednesday we will look at different topics discussed on XM Basecamp and provide a brief description of the Basecamp resource.

Whether you’re just getting started on your XM journey or ready to take your program to the next level, this weekly series is meant to help all users find Basecamp resources.

Topic: Open Text Questions

Open-ended questions allow respondents to provide custom answers from their point of view with as much or as little detail as they see fit.

While we love understanding the customer’s perspective, the wide range of answers gives rise to a new set of issues, such as making it difficult to compare and analyze your results and increasing your respondent drop-out rate since they are the most likely question type to be skipped by respondents.

Open-text questions are most effective when they are used sparingly and used as a follow-up to close-ended questions. This makes the questions easier for respondents to interpret and reduces the amount of variety in the responses. Motivational statements such as “We really appreciate your valuable feedback” also help increase open response rates by encouraging respondents to answer the question with thoughtful open text.

Start increasing your open response rates by optimizing your open-text questions today!

I like this kind of interactions, we can discover different practices. I always suggest to add open emded questions as they help us find the root causes of que quantitative results. One suggestion is to review the wording and inspect if you are including any biases
