I add the new questions one by one in the data source tab. Not sure if there's a better way. Maybe if you started a dashboard from scratch, then it would already have the new questions included, but then you'd need to (re)make all the widgets.
However, adding the questions in the data source tab does not mess up my entire dashboard… Not sure what you mean by that. Maybe you can clarify.

You will need to add questions via the data source screen. From my experience, the “smart matching” is only done when you first create the data source. It doesn’t appear to do it again once the data source has been set up.
Yes, it’s better to prepare as much as you can before starting “dashboarding.” I just learned this the hard way this week when working with textIQ—same story.
The shortcut I am taking is to create a new empty dashboard and then recreate the fields in the old one based on the automatically created ones in the new dashboard. Same steps, just a little easier on the thinking part.
