Parent topics not included in Text IQ Table | XM Community

I don’t seem to be able to include the parent topics in the Text IQ table when I include “Relative Importance” column.

As soon as I add “Relative Importance” column, the “Hide parent topics” checkbox is automatically checked and greyed out. How can I include parent topics in the table?

Hi @Dhananjayan Palaniswamy ,  this seems to be expected behavior in Text iQ. When you include the “Relative Importance” column, the system calculates it only at the child topic level, which is why the “Hide parent topics” option becomes automatically checked and locked. It’s a limitation built into how that metric is structured—it doesn’t support aggregate calculation at the parent level.

If you still want to view parent topics alongside importance metrics, a possible workaround could be:
    •    Export the Text iQ results without the “Relative Importance” column, so you can include parents.
    •    Then run the Relative Importance export separately (with only child topics), and merge both externally (e.g., in Excel or Tableau) if needed.

Not ideal, but could help until more flexibility is added natively.

Hope this helps!

Hi @rochak_khandelwal Thanks for your reply. While I understand the limitation, I would like to include the parent topics as well in the “Relative importance”. In some cases, the child topics are big enough to be included in the relative importance calculation and in some cases the child topics are not big enough and I want to include the parent topics instead.
But currently due to the limitation on Qualtrics, I am able to include only the child topics.
