Delete or edit open answers in a survey | XM Community
Skip to main content

Hi all,

I recently switched to the new format in the Results tab of surveys and I am struggling finding my way around. One of the things I cannot seem to find anymore, is a way to edit or delete open answers. Before, there used to be a trashcan icon next to each answer, where you could delete that answer. I cannot find that option anymore, and it seems that the only other way to do it is by downloading the results in Word and then editing. However, this is also not a desirable option for me, because the lay-out in Word is not ideal. Is there a way to delete answers within Qualtrics itself?

Thank you in advance for your response!

Hi @DianaK ,

You can do it at the Data & Analysis page of your survey for editing/deleting responses.

Hope this helps you!

Thank you for your response Nikeeta!

I should have been clearer; I don't want to delete all the answers from one specific person, I want to delete (or edit) open answers from one specific person. Sometimes, open answers contain sensitive information that I need to edit before others in the organization can see it. And sometimes, open answers contain useless information (such as ‘not applicable’ or ‘-’) and I want to clean it up before I show the results to my colleagues. But other answers from that same person can still be valid.

Is there a way to do this?

Hi @DianaK ,

In your survey's Data & Analysis page, select the response you wish to change. After evaluating the changes, click the review and Publish button to save them. You may also use the filters to edit certain fields.

Below is the reference.

@DianaK I can’t comment on if your account would have this enabled, however I find the Sensitive Data Policy settings really helpful for removing certain information and certain words automatically through Qualtrics.  Refer to link below.  Saves needing to do this manually, and for us gives us certainty we are not storing that data either.  Sharing in case it is helpful.

@Nikeeta Thank you, I didn't realize editing of individual answers was possible in the Data & Analysis page!

@ScottG Sadly I don’t have admin rights, otherwise this would have been an excellent solution!

@DianaK, no worries.  Definitely editing manually an option in the meantime!
