Is it possible to detect and flag duplicate open-text responses (e.g., identical “Additional Comments”) within the same branch/location in Qualtrics?

Specifically, I’m looking to compare responses across respondents and identify repeated text entries.

It looks like you've hit on a known limitation with how the platform handles open-text data. Currently, Qualtrics doesn't have a built-in tool to automatically flag duplicate "Additional Comments" or identical text strings across different respondents in real-time. The standard duplicate detection usually relies on metadata like device IDs or browser cookies (the Q_DuplicateRespondent field) rather than the actual content of the responses.

While there have been some whispers about a text-similarity feature on the roadmap for the future, the best way to handle this right now is to export your data and run a quick comparison in an external tool or use an Authenticator in your survey flow to prevent repeat entries from the same person upfront.

If this is causing a major roadblock for your project and you need someone to take a closer look at your specific survey setup, it might be worth checking in with the experts at the Customer Success Hub. They can dive into your brand settings to see if there are any custom workflows that might help bridge the gap.

Can you flag whether each response was submitted from the same device or if it was from the same Wi‑Fi network?

The fields that would be useful for this are Q_DuplicateRespondent and Q_BallotBoxStuffing. If they are marked as TRUE, it means the response was submitted from the same device.

You can add these values as embedded data to prevent users from taking the survey again, or send them to the end of the survey or to another group of questions.
