I would like to create a new variable that nets together individual answer choices from 2 variables. | XM Community

One variable is Primary brand. The second variable is Secondary brand. The brand list is the same for the two questions. I would like to create a third variable that nets together (OR function) Brand 1 Primary and Brand 1 Secondary, creating a choice in the new variable that is Brand 1 Primary or Secondary. I would like to do this for each brand. The second variable would be Brand 2 Primary or Secondary. This is very easy to do in MarketSight. I think I've gotten close by Creating a variable and using ANY with Brand 1 Primary from the Primary question and Brand 1 Secondary from the Secondary Question. That's where it stops. If I want to do this for each brand it appears that I need to create a new variable for each brand. If I try to do this in one variable, when I add a new choice, it says Otherwise, if (in other words it excludes the folks who use Brand 1 Primary or Brand 1 Secondary). I don't want it to exclude anyone. I want Brand 2 Primary OR Brand 2 Secondary regardless of any of their other choices. Seems excessive to need to create a new variable for every brand on the list. I would appreciate any suggestions. I would have liked to call technical support (which I could do with MarketSight). It seems like this is an easy one where someone knowledgeable could tell me what to do in about 2 minutes. I would appreciate your help.
