Making global scores out of coalesced fields? | XM Community
Skip to main content

Hello everyone,

I’m building a survey for people in which I combined (coalesce) fields together, since we are asking similar questions at 2 moments on the survey. The way it’s built, respondents will answer either one or the other of the 2 questions assessing the same thing.

I already coalesced questions together into new fields. However, in the dashboard, I would like to show global scores for all coalesced fields from a dimension (e.g. a score for Satisfaction with activities which would be the average of Coalesce1, Coalesce2, and Coalesce 3, which are all combinations of questions on satisfaction with activities).

I thought combining the coalesced fields together with the formula function would work, but I don’t see my coalesced fields in the field selection.

Have any of you ever done something similar? I would appreciate guidance on this.

Thank you!

@MathieuBeaudoinBRP Data that come from custom Field Editor(Derived Data) can not be used again in Field Editor. Because you can create a never ending loop.
So to do the average of those score, you have to use Custom Metric in Dashboard.

Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for the swift response and the clarification.

Is there a workaround to this on the XM platform or the Employee engagement module? I don’t have the custom metrics option in my dashboard settings.

Thank you!

@MathieuBeaudoinBRP Well, in that case, calculate it straight from the question
(Q1.1+Q1.2+Q2.1+Q2.2+Q3.1+Q3.2)/3

The way it’s built, respondents will answer either one or the other of the 2 questions assessing the same thing.

Only 1 of the pair is populated. So it will always be average of 3 questions.

Hi Nam,

Great insight, I think you just solved my problems. You gave me just the right nudge to go in the right direction.

Thanks a lot!

@MathieuBeaudoinBRP My pleasure 👍
