Prefill/prepopulate survey answer later in survey? | XM Community

In the first block of my survey, I ask respondents to enter an ID number (e.g., they type "10" into the text field).

In the second block, I have another text field for the ID number. I want the ID entered in the first block (“10”) to automatically appear in this field so respondents don’t have to retype it, but they can edit it if needed. This seems slightly different from piped text. Is there a way to do this?

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

There is a feature in Qualtrics that let you do this, it’s called “Default Choices”.

You could use it to pipe in the answer from your first block in the text field of the second question. The respondent will be able to modify it if necessary.

Thanks for the information. It seems I’ll need to provide a list of answers for respondents to use the default choices. Is there a way to allow users to enter their own input so that a number typed into one text box automatically appears in another, without providing the choices ahead of time?

Yes, you can easily pipe in answers entered in a text or a form field.

You just need to select the question and the field that you want to use as a default value

Select the question and the text field that you want to pipe in as a default value

The piped value will now appear in the field where the default choice is set.
