Question about assigning Embedded Data categories based on multiple question scores

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to assign respondents to a hidden category based on their answers to 5 survey questions.

Here's my setup:

  • I created category scores using numeric scoring.
  • I added Branch Logic and used conditions such as "Score >= X" and similar criteria to determine which category should be assigned.
  • I repeated the Branch Logic for the other 3 categories so that every respondent should fall into one of the category assignments.
  • Inside each branch, I set an Embedded Data field to store the category.

However, when I preview the survey, the category question/block is not displayed but automatically skipped, which makes me think that no category is being assigned.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something in the setup. Has anyone successfully implemented a similar approach where respondents are automatically assigned to a category based on the combined scores of several questions?

Are there any common mistakes with score-based branching and Embedded Data that could cause the category not to be assigned?

Any suggestions or examples would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

@Cristiana Tudor

A helpful troubleshooting mechanism is to pipe the score in a rich content editor question within a test block between the survey flow category assignment logic and subsequent category blocks. This will help you understand whether the score is being calculated correctly or not. If it works up to this point, then your categories should display appropriately.

All the best!

Hi @Cristiana Tudor

The XM Community site seems to be blocking me from posting images so I can’t post a screenshot, sorry for that.

Did you store your scores in ED fields first? You should have something like this :

Survey flow

Set Embedded Data:

  • score1 = ${gr://SC_eCIFI4rH7BgW8aa/Score}

Then Branch If:

  • Embedded Data score1 Is Greater Than 1
