I have some questions with a “NA” option and it is set as “Exclude from analysis”. This option value is also recoded as ‘999’ in Qualtrics.
Exclude from analysis.jpgSince the legacy exporter will phase out in 2021, recently I start using the new data exporter. Then I notice a different behaviour between two exports.
In legacy exporter, these values will be exported as “999” but in the new exporter, those values are really “excluded” and those cells become blank. Since we also want to know the number of responses who chose "NA", it is important for us to get the "NA"/"999" responses in the exported data.
Although I can turn off the “Exclude From Analysis” setting, this makes results of Qualtrics report invalid (as it include 999 in calculating means and SD). Is there a way for me to keep those "999" responses in my response data set and keep the Qualtrics report correct?
Thanks.

Workaround would be to punch the code as 99 in an ED when the scale is selected.
This will you can keep the Qualtrics report intact alongside your requirement.

Thanks for your reply but may I clarify if "ED" refers to "embedded data"?
If this is correct, does it means that I need to setup a trigger and whenever a respondent choose a "NA" in the question, the trigger will write 99 into the embedded data?
Many thanks again!

Yes for both

I think that solution works for a few questions with NA. But if the survey includes lots of matrix questions with NA option, it is really tedious and error-prone to setup many ED and triggers for each question item.
Still many thanks for sharing this suggestion.

If you are using CX Dashboards, there is always a way to exclude an option in the settings. I suspect it may be applicable to reports as well

Thanks for this tip. Unfortunately our organization does not have access to CX Dashboards.
