Add enbedded data after survey completion

I have a feedback intercept where i can get some basic embedded data, but i need some extra information that is in an external data base. So basically i need to send to an external data base the exclusive id to collect from there the other information related to that id and bring that information to my qualtrics project.
I was thinking of creating an importing data project but i am not sure if that is the best option.

I am not sure if the method I am suggesting is the best option. Just a thought here,

If the information is dynamic and cannot be stored in XM directory, you can create a workflow after a response is recorded for fetching that information via a unique ID through an API call from ext data base and the result can be appended/updated to the response via another API call.
OR
If the ext data base is static pull it in a CSV and just include all of it in the XM directory and pull via an authenticator the entire extra information needed within survey flow.
