How to manage Quotas/Response Limits by Country in "Mobile Embedded Feedback"?

Context: I am working on a "Website/App Feedback" project, specifically using intercepts inside a Mobile App. We are using the Mobile Embedded Feedback creative type (Guided Intercepts). As per the standard behavior of this creative type, it automatically created "Embedded Survey". My goal is to control the volume of responses based on the user's Country (Embedded Data).

Problem: I am facing a "dead-end" regarding quota management due to two limitations:

  1. Survey Limitations: The automatically created survey for Mobile Embedded Feedback does NOT have the "Survey" tab (only Workflows, Data & Analysis, Results). Therefore, I cannot configure standard Quotas inside the survey options as I would in a standard project.

  2. XM Directory Limitations: I tried to control this via "Targeting Logic" by integrating with the XM Directory. My idea was to create a Segment based on Country and limit frequency. However, the documentation states: "For mobile users, additional information cannot be added. The contact will be created with extRef only." Because of this, contacts are being created in the Directory without the "Country" embedded data, making it impossible to use Directory Segments to filter/throttle the intercept based on location.

My Question: Given that the "Embedded Survey" has no Quota tab and the Mobile Intercept doesn't pass Embedded Data (like Country) to the XM Directory to allow for Segmentation logic:

Is there any workaround to control the sample size/response limit specific to a country in this Mobile setup? Is it possible to link a Standard Survey (which supports Quotas) to a Mobile Embedded Feedback intercept instead of using the auto-generated one?

Hello, Eduardo.

Given the current limitations of Mobile Embedded Feedback (guided intercepts) in Qualtrics, where the auto-generated Embedded Survey lacks the Survey tab (and thus standard quota settings) and mobile user XM Directory contacts are created without embedded data like Country, direct, out-of-the-box quota management by country is not available.

However, several workarounds can be considered to achieve a form of country-based control:

1. Targeting via XM Directory Segments (Requires Development)

The ideal long-term solution involves enriching the mobile contact data:

  • Enrich Contact Data: Explore methods within the Mobile App SDK or other integration points to pass embedded data, such as Country, to the XM Directory when a mobile contact is created.

  • Segmentation: If Country data can be successfully passed, you can then leverage standard XM Directory segmentation to create target segments based on country, which can then be used in your intercept logic.

2. Control Sample Size via Intercept Logic (Indirect Control)

Modify the intercept's Display Logic conditions to indirectly throttle responses by country:

  • Custom Embedded Data: Use custom Embedded Data conditions within the intercept logic (if you can pass any country-related data via the app).

  • Limiting Frequency: Implement conditions that limit the interception frequency (e.g., show once per month) which can help manage overall sample size, though this is not a direct country quota.

3. Use Alternative Creative Types (Recommended Workaround)

Instead of using the Mobile Embedded Feedback creative type, which forces the use of the auto-generated survey, consider other creative types that allow standard survey selection:

  • Responsive Dialog or Custom Embedded Feedback: These creative types allow you to select a Standard Survey (which supports native quotas) and control targeting via intercept logic and XM Directory segments.

Current Limitations and Next Steps

Limitation Impact on Quotas Recommended Action
Auto-Generated Survey Does not have a Survey Tab; no standard quotas. Use a different Intercept Creative Type (Responsive Dialog, etc.) and link to a Standard Survey.
XM Directory Contact Only includes extRef; missing Country embedded data. Work with development to pass Country via Mobile App SDK/Integration.
Linking Surveys Cannot link a Standard Survey (with quotas) to a Mobile Embedded Feedback creative. Switch to an alternative creative type.

In summary, there is no out-of-the-box method to automatically control response quotas by country within the Mobile Embedded Feedback setup. You must either:

  1. Switch Creative Types to one that supports linking to a Standard Survey (with quotas).

  2. Enhance Integration to pass country data to XM Directory to enable country-level targeting/segmentation.
