Not many people know, but November 1st is National Authors’s Day! It is a day where you are welcomed to celebrate your favorite authors, books and series. You can do this in so many ways such as reading your favorite book, buying your favorite author’s most recent work, or simply sharing your favorite book with others.

This November we want to know all about your reading habits! Whether you’re a huge book worm, just now picking up reading, or you’re like me, someone who used to read a lot but want to pick the hobby back up, this post welcomes everyone on the community to participate.

Task: Answer one (or more!) of the following:

  • 📖 What is the last book you finished, and would you recommend it or pass? Why?

  • ✍️ Who is your favorite author?

  • 💡 What is one book that genuinely changed how you think, work, or live?

  • 📸 Share a photo of your bookshelf, your current read, or your go-to cozy reading nook.

  • 🎧 Are you team physical book, e-reader, or audiobook? Why is this favorite way to read?

Comment on a few other posts to keep the conversation going!

Also, if you’re not much of a reader, don’t worry, feel free to share what your favorite song or movie is!

During the first week of each month, we post a new question, topic, or activity for you to connect with the community and earn a badge. All community members who join us and contribute a thoughtful comment between November 1 and November 30 will receive this badge worth 50 points by the end of the month.

I loved reading Agatha Christie’s Mousetrap. It is a murder mystery which centers on a group of strangers snowed in at a remote countryside guesthouse while a killer is on the loose.

Last read: a Chinese web novel《游戏入侵:我选了最弱职业召唤师》.

Fantasy game invasion into the real world, various class/jobs awakening upon college graduation, leveling up and somehow becoming the final evil boss due to the evil possession.

It was okay but there were quite a bit of stereotyping which I don’t really like, and the ending felt a bit rushed.

E-reader, because I will always bring my phone along with me. I don’t have to bring anything extra and can stop/resume reading as and when I want/need to.

Recently finished The Immortals of Meluha and Tuesdays with Morrie. Loved how the first offers a fresh take on mythology, while the second makes you reflect on life's priorities, relationships, and the things we often take for granted.

As I mentioned in the original post, I used to be a bigger book worm than I am now. Some of my friends and I had expressed that feeling of wanting to read again and figured it’d be easier to do it all collectively so we started a small “book club” a month ago now. I have that in quotations because in reality it is just the three of us agreeing to read the same book and meeting to discuss it once a month. 😅

Since we wanted to ease our way back into reading we started with “The Giver” which I really enjoyed. I’m more of a physical book person myself, but if I find that I don’t have time to sit down I’ll typically just have the audiobook playing while I’m doing chores or other mindless activities!

@Chee Heng_SZ That sounds like a fun concept! I do hate it when the ending doesn’t feel like it compliments the build up though. Do you think you’ll give this author another try? Also, completely understand the E-reader preference, although I’ll typically try to not use my phone for this since I find that my screen isn’t big enough for me to enjoy the reading experience.

@Umang Upadhyay, those both sound like great reads! I might try to get my book club to read this in the future since I’m a sucker for mythological fantasies. Although very different, I thoroughly reading the Percy Jackson books when I was younger so I’m sure this would definitely pique my interest. 🤓
