What is World Environment Day?

Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually on 5 June since 1973, World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world. In 2025, it is hosted by the Republic of Korea. Source.

Task:

  • 🌿 How do you connect with the environment in your everyday life?

Whether it’s a walk in the park, gardening, or just enjoying fresh air—share the moments that ground you in nature. Photos welcome!

  • ♻️ What sustainable habits have become part of your routine?

From reducing plastic to biking more, we’d love to hear what eco-friendly choices you’ve made—big or small.

During the first week of each month, we will post a new question, topic, or activity for you to connect with the community and earn a badge. All community members who join our team and contribute a thoughtful comment to this month’s discussion, between June 1 and June 30, will receive this badge worth 50 points by the end of the month.

Love this topic.  My son and I make it a point to visit US National Parks together whenever we can. We’ve hit *almost* all of them in Utah (Canyonlands - we’re coming for you next!)...and several in other states. In my spare time I get out and play disc golf in some of the beautiful parks nearby. But my favorite outdoor activity is “getting high” (elevation wise that is) in the mountains. This picture is of a trek up Pfifferhorn (in Utah) last summer. I feel completely at home over 10,000 ft elevation. Clean air, quiet surroundings with the rocks and trees to keep me company.

Just caught this post on the last day and everyone’s photos remind me I need to get outside in nature way more than I do! I feel inspired!!

On a sustainability front, I try lots of things with good ambition but convenience and life often makes this hard.  One of the things I have managed to do is buy locally made clothes from a few retailers I trust (mostly) and buying fewer high quality things, means I don’t need to have soo much around me.  I am also in the process of donating or selling a lot of my clothes - to give it a second life, which reminds me how much we over consume - and so my sustainable practices now, likely is just making up for some over consumption earlier in my life.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s topic! Tomorrow we will have a new topic (it’s a Community favorite 👀)

Have a great week!
