How many surveys should a team run? Engagement, wellbeing, onboarding, exit, pulse, adhoc, facilities etc, etc. How to avoid survey fatigue and how you make sure surveys dont overlap.

The trends I’ve been seeing in Higher Ed have been onboarding and exit (for students) c/o the academic programs.

As far as fatigue keeping it short, sweet, and to the point.  Students are notorious for not reading their email but I’ve heard programs have had success with the QR codes and allowing class time to complete important surveys.

Only collecting the data you actually need and intend to use depending on the purpose of the survey to prevent overlap.

I don’t think there is a single right answer @PeeyushBansal 😉

Before we explore which and how many surveys will accurately measure EX it may help to remind ourselves what EX is. And XM has a neat definition, namely the perceptions that employees have of their collective interactions with their employers.

Now we have this guideline explaining what EX is, surveys can be designed to measure those things that affect & impact those perceptions. I think this link can help guide you based on the best practices that XM has summarised.

Curious to your thoughts!

It really depends on the organisation’s listening culture and operational capacity. A good starting point is to map the employee journey (just like we do in CX, to identify the key moments that matter). From there, we can define a measurement plan that answers the why, how, and how often. The frequency and type of surveys should be  aligned with the organisation’s ability to act, and ensure feedback leads to meaningful change.

Hi @PeeyushBansal!

hope you've managed to progress with your question. I've got some follow on questions that hopefully may help like:

what do your company stakeholders tell you in terms of what they need? Hiring Managers, HR and the like should surely have a view on this. EX surveys are after all a means to an end so clarity is needed from the outset what good looks like and which goals the organization is aiming for.

And like @pamelalbeck says, survey fatigue is indeed very much on the rise. The challenge then is to come up with other ways & moments to survey them than your classic email invite. Pop ups on internal websites comes to mind, or quick 'snackable' surveys at key moments when users make use of the services for example.
