Topic: Assigning Random IDs

Whether you need to track respondents through multiple surveys or are practicing anonymity and not collecting personal information, randomly generated numbers can be used as unique identifiers for your respondents.

Embedded data and the built-in random number generator are used to assign and save these IDs for each respondent. It is best practice to use IDs 10 to 12 digits long to reduce the likelihood that more than one respondent will have the same ID. If you’re having respondents prove their completion with this ID, you can display it to them via email or within the survey by piping in the embedded data field.

Stop collecting personal information and start tracking your survey responses via random IDs today!

How to use this feature:

  1. Go to your Survey Project.
  2. Go to your Survey Flow.
  3. Add a new Embedded Data.
  4. Name the Embedded Data and Click Set a Value Now.
  5. Hover over Insert Piped Text & hover over Random Number.
  6. Enter your minimum and maximum, and then click Insert.
  7. Click Apply.

Question of the Day:  Do you assign random IDs to your respondents often? What does your process for assigning random IDs entail?

This is indeed a great idea and has worked well in few cases where data confidentiality is an critical need
