Hello,

I’m working on a registration form that allows respondents to choose from a list of schools.  I currently have a ‘none of these’ option that then asks them for more details about their school.  After someone does that, I manually add the new school to the options in the question.  Is there a way to automate that so any time someone responds with a new school it is added to the list for all future respondents without my manual intervention every time?

I’ve seen some code options for populating questions using JS, but it’s unclear if I can generate the incoming variables from a dynamic list.

Thanks!

@AsaKelley ,

A Supplemental Data Source (SDS) is a good option for maintaining a dynamic school list in Qualtrics. You can use it with autocomplete or dropdown questions so respondents always see the latest list of schools.

You could also include a "None of these" option to capture new school details. Once you identify a new school, you can update the SDS file in the Qualtrics Library.

While Qualtrics doesn't natively update an SDS automatically from survey responses, you could explore Qualtrics Workflows or a custom API-based solution to streamline the process and append new schools to the list.

This reduces the need to manually edit the survey question whenever a new school is added.

I think you may be referring to Dynamic option creation - Select2.

Automatically adding an input to the list may seem more user friendly or less tedious for you but you have to be wary of the possible effects as you won’t want invalid or gibberish input being automatically added to the list for your future respondents.
