Need help with customising a pick group and rank question | XM Community

Hi, I'm currently prepping an experiment that will require participants to group 40 stimuli into a custom number of groups. The whole point of the task is to see how many groups come out of the 40 samples, so I need to have 40 groups available for the participants on screen since they can't create any themselves during the experiment.
However, the problem is that the stimuli are in audio format - so when I add columns to the groups, they start to overlap. But when I don't have columns, there's a lot of scrolling involved, which will tire the participants out if they have to scroll up and down constantly.
Has anyone come across this kind of thing? Do you have any suggestions at all?

Hi there, I found a thread that I think might be helpful to you:
https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/9646/how-to-design-an-object-grouping-question
In that, rondev provides some code for a PGR question that starts with 1 Group and lets the respondent add more as needed. Configure your PGR in the question builder to have 40 Groups and the button will make another Group visible each time it is clicked.
You might also make use of "Stack Items Placed In Groups" to help save space when the Items are placed in the Group.

That link seems to be exactly what I needed Tom_1842 , thank you. However, I am a complete novice when it comes to coding and can't seem to get the code to work. If anyone can advise me on how to make the code work, I would be very grateful.

Hi, the inputtype="button" bit should go in the HTML view of the question. I also have it together in a QSF to import into a blank survey if it helps.
