Dynamic Benchmarks in Lifecycle Projects | XM Community

Hello community,

I would like to ask for your support in better understanding how dynamic benchmarks are generated in the tool from a technical perspective. Specifically, I have doubts about whether it is possible to generate them using a metadata field like "Business Unit" in lifecycle projects that do not have an active hierarchy.

Is this something that can only be achieved through an organizational hierarchy? If so, it would limit its use exclusively to Engagement projects.

Additionally, I would love to hear about the use cases you have implemented in similar situations. Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Dynamic Benchmarks: A Technical Overview

Dynamic Benchmarks in Qualtrics are designed to show the most relevant benchmark cut based on the organizational hierarchy unit the user is currently viewing in a dashboard.

Core Functionality

  • How They Work: Dynamic benchmarks require an active organizational hierarchy. The benchmark values are mapped directly to specific hierarchy units. As the dashboard viewer navigates the hierarchy, the displayed benchmark automatically updates to reflect their context.

  • Purpose: This feature ensures that managers and leaders see benchmarks specific to their own team, department, or region, providing a highly relevant comparison point.

Key Limitation: Project Type

Dynamic benchmarks are only possible in projects that support organizational hierarchies:

  • Available in: Employee Engagement and Pulse projects.

  • NOT Available in: Lifecycle projects.

While Lifecycle projects allow you to use metadata (like "Business Unit") for filtering and static comparisons, they do not support the organizational hierarchy structure needed for dynamic benchmarks.

Advice: If you require dynamic benchmarking based on units like "Business Unit," you must run your survey as an Engagement project and set up the corresponding org hierarchy.
