Averaging Likert Scale results by Group | XM Community

Dear Qualtrics community -

We conduct regular technology surveys for organizations and I have questions about whether a report/data table view is available within Qualtrics.

The surveys have the following characteristics:

  • Combination of 5-point LIkert scale questions (usually ~20 ) and open text  (usually ~5) per survey
  • Completed anonymously, but respondents identify a “Department” value
  • We have a template that we use each time we conduct a new survey with an organization. We customize the survey to show the Department Names that reflect the organization.
  • Most often we receive between 50-100 responses per organization, spread throughout their departments

Once we are done receiving responses, this is what  I would like to do:

  • Create a table view of responses that shows:
    • Departments across the top as column headers (it would pull this from the “Departments” field)
    • Each of the Likert scale questions would be a row (so the table/report goes ~20 rows)
    • The average score for that question (on the 1-5 point scale) broken down by department (in the respective department column) in each row

Is this possible? Crosstabs are great at breaking down the Department value into columns, but then it is not possible to list each question sequentially. It seems you can only view one question at a time.

I am including a spreadsheet that shows what the numerical export looks like. Surprisingly this involves more than transposing data once in Excel - or I would have gone this route.

Any suggestions? This seems to be a fairly common need to be able to group survey score results by a given value in one of the identifying questions.

Best,

Kim
