Hi,
You should look into scoring for that, instead of recode values.
Yes, that makes sense. Could you explain how to set that up using scoring? I'm not quite sure how to go about it.
Hi @danfaraci ,
You can refer to scoring documentation link in vgayraud’s post.
In other words, once you have accessed the scoring section, you can set 1 to correct answer, leaving other answers as empty.
*You can also rename the scoring category in the scoring option. For example, Marks*
Once you have set this up and published, the scoring category “Marks” should show up in your “Data & Analysis” tab, after which you should be able to export both the original responses from survey takers and the sum of the answers “Marks” in one instance.
Hi @Chee Heng_SZ , here’s the issue: we need both the values and the answer labels. Right now, it’s set up the way you described, but when someone gets a question wrong, Qualtrics only lets us export either the values or the labels — not both at the same time.
Since we need the values to calculate total scores, we can’t see which answer a participant actually picked if they got it wrong — we only see a 0. What we really need is to see both the answer they chose and its recoded value (0 or 1) in the same export. Does that make sense?
Hi @danfaraci ,
The scoring category is already the total scores/values, no need for recode.
If you want the individual question score, you may have to create a category for each individual question, then have a final category for all the question.
For example, Q1Marks, Q2Marks,...
This way, you can see which question they got wrong and the wrong answer that was selected.
For example, Q1’s answer, Q1Marks, Q2’s answer, Q2Marks,… (or maybe in a different column ordering depending to which one was created first.)
Thank you all! I was able to figure this out using AI. I was trying to download both labels and values together in one Excel export, but Qualtrics doesn’t support that directly. My workaround was to use the Survey Flow to create custom labels for each question and set it to record the selected choices, so each participant's response is saved clearly. I really appreciate everyone who reached out and offered help!
