Issues adding new information to contact list causing triplication of list | XM Community
Skip to main content

Hi all,

First up, de-duplication is not an option through our brand administrator.  We attempted but it meant risking merging the entire brands contact lists and there was no means of selecting my own directory (Merging Duplicate Contacts in XM Directory (qualtrics.com)

I have spoken to Qualtrics phone support too and they have been unable to come to a successful solution.

So...what has happened is that I followed the information in Managing Contacts in a Mailing List (qualtrics.com) in order to update my contact list adding all 3 personal survey links as embedded fields.  In the process of re-importing the contact list it has triplicated the entire contact list.

We were trying to create a registration page whereby a user could access a choice of the 3 surveys by entering 2 points of identification.  We have done this before with a previous survey.  However, my boss stated that the process was much simpler and that there was an option at the time to add data to the contact list from the Qualtrics page rather than exporting and importing.

The surveys have not yet been released but personal links have been allocated to each person for each of the 3 surveys.

My options as I see it are:

  • Either delete the entire contact list and re-load them but I’ve been told the links will no longer work and therefore I face the same scenario when we go to upload the contact list again with the new links.
  • Somehow de-triplicate the contact list
  • Create a new contact list with all the fields already entered and keep the old contact list hoping that this would mean the links would be valid.

Please help.  There must be a really simple solution I’m missing.

P.S. I did find this solution How do you update all employees metadata | XM Community (qualtrics.com) however when I tried re-exporting the triplicated list ContactID is written as ContactID so I don’t think this is a solution for me either.

Hi @GemG

Have you tried with supplemental data sources? Maybe it could help. You could add a file with the three different links for each participant, with their Unique ID’s or whatever the points of identification are. Then, based on responses or metadata you could show them which survey link should they go to. It will work if the registration page is also a Qualtrics Survey.

Also, isn’t an authenticator an option? If it’s a registration page out of Qualtrics, you could paste the anonymous link of each survey and through the authenticator people could sign in to the survey.
