In XM Directory, I merged two contact lists that had overlapping emails. Now some contacts appear with duplicated attributes. Is there a structured way to manage attribute conflicts during merges?

Hi,

Assuming you mean that ED fields with different names contain information that should be in the same ED field.

You can edit, delete and merge those fields in the directory options, in the directory contact tab:

By default - Email is the dedupe key for directory contacts.

If your attributes depend on external system logic (CRM, SIS, HRIS), use:

  • ExternalDataReference (EDR) field rather than email

Then Qualtrics merges based on EDR → and email conflicts are handled cleanly.

Example:

gaurav.pandey@gmail.com appears with different CRM IDs.
If EDR is used, Qualtrics will NOT merge these two incorrectly.
