Right now the label is aligned to the left margin but the authenticator field is aligned in the center, so there is a lot of space between the label and where they enter text.

In that, dmccoyny provides some code to place in the Header of your survey that touches on resizing the input field in the Authentication element. Below is their code for reference.
I also played around with some styling by adding the below code in the Alternative Text in the Authentication Element in the Survey flow, but it is still not exactly right.
Alternatively, Mishraji provides a solution in the thread I linked that talks about adding a text entry/form question and then piping those values into an embedded field and prefilling the authenticator with the embedded field. This way, respondents never actually see the Authentication page and you have much more flexibility over the size/layout of the survey questions that drive the authentication. Something like:
