Hello, we are a small school district in Ohio and we have been using Qualtrics for several years now for community, staff and parent surveys but we are looking for anyone that is effectively capturing timely student feedback for their high school courses? Anyone willing to share their method to their madness?

Hi,

We used Qualtrics to collect feedback on a lot of items (including training/courses).  The “method” is actually simple.

  1. Decide on what you really (really) need (not want) to know.  Why?  You want your survey to be as short and meaningful as possible. This requires up front work.  You do NOT want to change your questions each semester, using a trial and error method.
  2. Decide on who you will ask (sounds like students in your case)
  3. Decide how you will distribute it.  Meet your respondents where they are: phones? laptops? email? social media?
  4. Decide when you will distribute it.  If you use a contact list, you can send auto-reminders.  Pick the time and day they are most likely to respond.
  5. You CAN make it required (can’t get your final grades until you complete the survey)

In all of these cases it’s critical that you pre-plan the survey AND also realize that the data you collect will not be facts - they will (at best) be honest opinions.  But they may also just be someone “checking off the box” so they can get it done.
