Now on to the interview!
Q: Tell us about your current role.
A: I am the Executive Director of Organizational Development at Advanced Learning Partnerships (ALP). ALP partners with well over 600 school systems across United States and Canada to integrate district-wide organizational change grounded in values for collaborative inquiry, innovation in practice, and deeper learning for all. Katy and ALP team members design and implement ALP’s organizational development consulting services including competency modeling, strategic planning, talent development systems, and organization change facilitation. I collaborate with district partners to design and validate customized metrics and data analytic tools including competency-based coaching tools for educators and customized surveys to bring community voice into important district decisions and better understand district employees' needs, work engagement, and important workplace perceptions.
Q: Tell us about one project that you have run on Qualtrics that has been particularly impactful.
A: Educators are facing severe levels of burnout and stress during the pandemic. Employee burnout tends to be blamed on the employee. They are told to rest, take time off, meditate, etc. While these may help alleviate the symptoms it is typically a function of the organization and environment in which the employee works. We sought to better understand the stressors that were driving burnout and begin a conversation on ways to negate burnout. I presented at a district's conference and administered the survey at the outset of my session. After taking the survey, I unpacked the different predictors of burnout and we had some interactive activities for attendees to discuss and reflect with colleagues. All who took the survey and supplied an email received a Wellness Profile (through a Qualtrics email trigger) that provided them with feedback to help them better understand predictors of burnout and thriving in the workplace as well as related articles and resources.
Q: What would you like to learn from others in the Community?
A: I'd love to better understand the needs of the K-12 Community in terms of trends and needs they are seeing within their district communities around: - educator, instructional coaches, school and district leaders professional learning and development - district data integration in planned organizational change efforts (e.g., program evaluation, strategic planning, key performance indicators) - how they are listening to their larger district communities (parents and guardians, local organizations, government, and employers, etc.) when making important decisions around student learning.
Q: If time and money were endless, what would be your dream experience?
A: I would love to go visit my family in Canada and California. My husband, kids, and I are on the East Coast and have been apart from grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and cousins because of the pandemic for too long. We are avid hikers so lots of time in the Alberta Rockies and California Sierra Nevada mountains!
Q: Do you have any additional or fun information you'd like to share as it relates to your experience with Qualtrics?
A: Qualtrics has been a game changer for ALP! We are not a "one-size-fits-all" approach to services and professional development implementation. Data and formative feedback are critical to how we work with our district partners. We customize our approach after building relationships and gaining a deeper understanding of the needs and culture of each district. Qualtrics helps us better listen to and integrate more voices throughout a district. Through our data systems, that were built in Qualtrics, ALP is poised to better understand the impact of our services and work to continuously improve and refine those services based on district partner feedback.
