Hi Qualtrics Community,

I’m working in the ‘Data & Analysis’ tab where I’ve created a new variable using the ‘bucketing’ method:

I’m wondering if it could be possible to create a new variable with the results of this previous variable created. It mean, using the groups created as a result of the bucketing process to create a new variable. I’ve already tried it but I cannot select this ‘city_groups’ new variable to work with.

Thanks for your feedback.

Based on step 6 of this support page, I think it is not possible to use custom variable as source in bucketing. So we have to use the embedded data - ‘city’ again to create any new variable.

mmm interesting….thanks @Shashi

Maybe by exploring another ways to do it, for instance using ‘formulas’

This will only work for existing responses.

Create field of type manual and then we can use editing multiple responses based on ‘city_groups’ variable to update the manual field.

ahh yeh, althought it’d needed to consider also for the upcoming interviews and not only for the existing ones
