Hello K-12 Leaders!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend. As we start off the ’25-’26 school year, I wanted to ask you about your student feedback program. Specifically, what role does student feedback play in shaping extracurricular programs and activities, and how do you ensure that these programs meet student interests and needs?

Student feedback and voice drives our extracurricular clubs and activities that are offered at our secondary schools. Most of this is through informal feedback...student and teacher driven, requests to administration, connection to course content. We have not done a formal survey to hear what additional activities students would be interested in. Our staff and students do a great job of self-advocating for what they would like added to our 60+ clubs and activities.

We survey our high school students and parents using Qualtrics about their experiences in specific extracurriculars.   This feedback is used by our athletic director and shared with coaches/advisors as part of our continuous improvement process.

We also use dashboards to track participation in extracurriculars.   This participation is tracked by overall participation, gender, grade level, race, graduation cohort, SPED status, EL status and economic status.    Tracking this data allows us to see who is/isn’t participating in extracurriculars and how those data points are trending.

Additionally we take the participation rates and compare it to GPAs, attendance rates and behavioral incidents.  Not surprisingly, students who participate in extracurriculars tend to have higher GPAs, attendance rates and fewer incidents.

As of today we do not survey students on what sports/clubs/activities they would like to see added to our existing offerings.
