Can I pipe text into a text entry field in a survey?

Apologies for the complete newbie question; the platform has changed a lot since I last used it about five years ago, and I've been reading tutorials and this forum for hours without finding the answer this question.
I'm surveying a list of 20k people and I have the company name for about half of them. Is it possible to ask "What is the name of your company" and then pipe the company name text into the text entry field, with the goal of having any new entry (or edit to the piped text) amend the embedded data in the directory? I see where text can be piped into multiple choice or other types of questions, but not into a freeform text entry field.
Let me know if this is the wrong approach for this problem as well. Thanks!
