Hi, I'm having participants propose ideas in several text entry boxes in a limited amount of time. Can I know when they enter each idea in a box? Thanks !

Where can I find freelance support with Qualtrics API?

Create Qualtrics JavaScript multipart survey question: Need a simple proof-of-concept JavaScript item within a Qualtrics survey. We are evaluating how it handles multiple responses within an item. The user will select one of two displayed random numbers between 1-20. They will do this ten times. We need to collect the two displayed numbers and which one the user picked. Preferably we can submit each choice as a sub-response in a single survey item (as a separate column in the output report/spreadsheet/file). If not, we need to collect all responses into a single final response that is collapsed into a single column (not ideal). After the proof-of-concept is completed, we will move forward with multiple jobs that will be simple games that build on this work.

Execution queue of setEmbeddedData() in addOnload within a loop?

Hi everyone, I have a loop repeating n questions in random order for t times. The questions contain references to embedded fields. The embedded fields need to be changed in each iteration of the loop. The fields are not pre-populated. I use javascript in addOnload() to change the embedded field data. What happens is that in the first iteration of the loop the embedded fields are not set. In the second iteration the fields are set. It seems that addOnload() executes the setting of the embedded data only after the page loads (?). Pseudocode to illustrate For (t in times) { set embedded data field of question n_i display question n_i set embedded data field of question n_i + 1 display question n_1 + 1 ... } I cannot pre-populate the fields. I tried hiding the first loop iteration and using t+1 loop iterations, but this does not execude the code in iteratio no 1. Any recommendations? I am happy to use javascript directly without the embedde

In Qualtrics Table of Contents, I want to disable the checkmark selectively for a block only.

The checkmark icon is displayed in the Table of Contents when a block is completed. To disable it for all the blocks in the survey, I know I can use this script. jQuery(".TocIcon").css("display","none"); But I want to selectively disable the checkmark icon for few blocks (based on their block flow ID). How do I proceed?

constant sum -> slider (Validation Type:none)

I used the code in the figure below to move only one slider, the other slider automatically moves to the corresponding position, and the values of the two sliders add up to 100. ! But if you move the first slider first ! and then the second slider, ! the data is like this. ! Just move one slider and the data is like this. ! ! How can I display data correctly?

Specialized description using piped (randomized) choices from previous block

Hi, I needed to create a survey that does the following: 1) People are provided with a list of 20 adjectives and they choose five that describe their parent. 2) In a future block, I would like the five adjectives they picked to be (randomly) inserted into a text passage describing a potential new friend. In a way, this resembles a mad lib, but instead of users generating content (https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/1984/mad-lib-fun), I want them to choose from a finite list of words and then have those words randomly inserted into a future text passage (and not the choices they didn't choose!). Any help would be greatly appreciated! I couldn't figure it out from the typical piped text/display options!

Matrix table with square buttons, instead of radio buttons

Hi all, I would like to recreate the look and feel of the NPS question type, but customize the response options and numeric labels. That is, a numeric scale with square buttons and text labels above the scale that is displayed horizontally on desktop and mobile. The easiest way to implement that would be to create a single-row matrix question, hiding the label columns (as discussed here). However, how would I be able to force the matrix question to use the square buttons, instead of the default radio buttons? I would like this: ! Instead of this: ! Note: I am able to accomplish the above by adjusting the numeric labels of the NPS type (see discussion here). However, I could not find a way to change the number of response options from the default 11 options. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers, Fabian

Combining fields and timing

Hi! I have a sound file that my respondents need to hear before they can answer the question. The timing function can hide the "next button" until the respondent has had enough time to hear the sound file, but i use regions as both answer and as the "next button". Does anyone have an idea how i can fix this, so is it only possible for my respondents to click on the regions after a certain amount of time?

In a heat map, how do I access the coordinates of a click in java script?

I want to use the X and Y coordinates of the where the user clicked last on a heat map. It doesn't look like I can simply refer to ${q://QID1/ChoiceNumericEntryValue/1/X}, so I guess I need some other way to capture this information. Thanks!

How do I add code for a button in java script editor?

I created a button in the html editor and a function that is executed when it is pressed. This works, however, I would like to write the function in the java script editor, but when I write it there, it is ignored. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I don't know how the two texts (html and java script) are combined Thank you!

How do I refer to a region on a Heat Map?

I would like to use java script to be able to do different things depending on where the person clicked on a Heat Map. I suppose I can do this using X and Y coordinates, but I'd rather use regions. Is there are way to refer to regions inside the survey? Thank you!

Display Sum Total of Slider Choices

I would like the total sum of slider choices be displayed on the same page as the sliders. RIght now, a total is displayed when you force the slider choices to sum to some value. But I do not want that validation. How do you display the sum total of slider choices on the same page as the slider?

How to add a string counter in the Qualtrics

Hello, I want to add a counter which could count the number of sub-string "ab" and "ba". That is , participants type letters in a text bar, like "ababaaaabbbbba", and I want to count the number of "ab" or "ba" and show it on the screen on Qualtrics. In the example, there are 3 "ab" or "ba" in this string, so the he or she will see "3" on the screen. I will be appreciate if anyone can tell me how to write the Javascript.

Getting started with Question JavaScript

I have questions throughout my surveys that require validation of numeric entries. In many questions I can use the validation options built into Qualtrics, but several have more advanced validation: I either need to compare the value of one question against the sum of two or more other questions (or the total of column sums of another question) elsewhere in the survey, or compare a date entered to ensure it is within a valid range (before or after another date entry, or a static date). I was able to use JavaScript for all of this in the previous online survey software I used with IF/ELSE conditional statements and alerts or HTML5 messages so that the survey stops progress and displays an error message if an invalid entry is made. Presumably I can do something similar in Qualtrics with Question JavaScript, but I'm having trouble getting started. I set up a simple JavaScript validation for a question (though I know it could be done instead using built-in options) to make sure I've got t

pre select all boxes

Hi I am sure there is an easy fix to this but somehow I couldn't figure it out: In a matrix item, how can I have all boxes selected (so respondents have to un-select instead of select). I know I can manually select all boxes through "Add Default Choices.." but because I have to do it for many items, I hope there is an automatic way? Thanks in advance

Can next button not register as completed?

For my survey, we only want participants to think of a section as being completed if they have answered all of the questions. However, in the Table of Contents it shows a check next to any section that they have clicked through - even if no questions have been answered. Does anyone have a code to either remove the check marks from the table of contents or not have clicking the next button register as completing the page?

access recode values from a random question

Hi, I've been stuck at this issue for some time and any help would be much appreciated. I would like to design a survey with the following features: 1. Display a random subset of 9 questions from a total of 36 questions. 2. Reward each participant for his/her answer for a question randomly selected from the displayed questions. Different answers give different amount of rewards. So, the way I have thought about this is to set the recode values of the answers to the appropriate rewards and the get the recode values. But I can't seem to do so. Here's what I have tried: At the start of the survey, set embedded data rand to a random integer between 1 and 9. Changing Location of Drop down on Mobile Experience

Hello, I have a survey that includes a question asking for the respondent's country. It is a dropdown that includes all of the countries in the world. On the desktop, it looks fine. It says select a country and has a dropdown to the right. On the mobile version, it has the dropdown to the right and it extends way off the screen. Is there a way to make the dropdown appear below "select a country" on the mobile site?

Only show pop up if validation is met?

Hi, I would like to show participants a pop up if their answers to two questions are the same. I have found the code for a pop up (I have pasted this at the end of the question) which I have used but currently is shown to all participants. Participants answer 2 allocation questions, in the second question the custom start position is their allocations from the first one. If they leave this unchanged, I would like to have a pop up as shown in the second screen shot. If they make changes, I do not want this pop up to appear. ! ! Overall Word/Character Count from multiple questions

Hello, I have a survey with 8 questions on the same page and I am asking the participant to write an overall minimum of 300 words. I have learned how to put a word count for one question, but I would actually like an overall word count that counts all the words in all 8 questions. This way a participant will know if they have reached 300 words for the 8 questions. Is that possible?

CSS Code to change color of empty matrix table question circles

! I am hoping someone can help me with the CSS code to change the color of this matrix table options to grey (instead of green). All other questions type are the correct color, but I can't seem to find the lines of CSS code I need to change these colors. I appreciate any support! Erik
