Pseudonymization: can you still make cross-project analysis? | XM Community

If you activate Pseudonymization in EX, does each participant receive the same pseudonym in every survey? In other words, can we still do cross-project analysis, to have insights like “employees who give a negative rating on survey 1, also give in general a bad rating on survey 2” ?

And if you exempt certain surveys from the pseudonymization, then you probably cannot combine data from that survey with pseudonymized surveys?

Hello, JoycaV

Pseudonymization in Qualtrics EX projects assigns a unique, consistent token to each participant across all surveys in the brand where the feature is enabled.

  • Cross-Project Analysis IS Possible: Because the pseudonym token is the same for a participant across multiple surveys, you can still link and analyze their behavior across different projects (e.g., tracking a negative rater from one survey to the next).

  • Linkage is NOT Possible with Exempted Surveys: Data from any survey that is exempted (i.e., does not have pseudonymization turned on) cannot be combined at the participant level with data from pseudonymized surveys. The differing identification methods prevent this linkage.

The activation of pseudonymization does not impact other core project areas. The Participants tab, Org Hierarchies, and Messages tab all continue to function normally using the underlying participant metadata. The system uses an internal token decoder to maintain these features while keeping personally identifiable information masked from the user.
