How can I use a question answer in a survey to branch to different surveys?

I want to place a question in a survey that will direct respondents to different surveys depending on their answers. How can this be done?

Collapse/Expand all blocks

Good morning all! I have some longer surveys I inherited form a Brand Admin who's no longer with our organization. On one of her surveys, she has over 20 blocks and they're collapsed by default. This is only a problem when I want to Ctrl F to find a single question as the Find searched only the expanded blocks. Therefore, I go to the bottom of the page and click on each block title starting with the last one, but this also means I have to page up 3 times to complete this task and it's just an annoying 30 seconds. I checked Qualtrics Support and the Community for a solution, but didn't see one. Two questions stem from this: 1) Is there a way to expand/collapse all blocks in the Editor? & if not - 2) Does Qualtrics have a suggestion page on their website? I would love to give this as a feature suggestion to the Qualtrics devs (or upvote an existing suggestion) Thank you all for your time! Respectfully, Jeremy

Completing surveys - within the same survey can you have multiple people completing questions

Hi, I am creating one survey for two different teams to complete the questions. Some of the questions will be answered by the same team or person, but some of the questions may need to be answered by a different contact. Question: can multiple contacts complete certain questions within the same survey? Do I each send them a link? How does it work if this is possible? or does the same person have to complete the one survey in its entirety. I want to avoid sending two separate surveys out. thanks

For question 'custom validation', what is the expected format of the 'Contains' condition?

I was not able to find any documentation on what the Contains condition expects or accepts, so here is what I learned. The Contains condition is a 'single-value' condition that strictly looks for the value entered in the condition. If you have a Contains value of '0-20', the Contains condition WILL NOT check that only numbers 0-20 are entered into the question field. Validation for the Contains condition will ONLY pass if you enter '0-20' or you enter a phrase that contains the value '0-20', such as _'The fox was expected to work between 0-20 hours per week'_ (this phrase would pass validation for the condition). The Contains condition DOES NOT accept wildcards from what I have found and is strict. A Contains condition of '*.jpeggy' will not pass for values such as 'fox.jpeggy'. A phrase such as 'The fox tried to find his image using the *.jpeggy search string' would pass, but a phrase such as 'The fox tried to find his image using the foxy.jpeggy search string' would fail. Is it possible to extract responses to a specific question only on Qualtrics

Hi there, I am wondering if someone could help me. This is my first time using qualtrics and I have designed a questionnaire to which I would like the responses to be anonymous. However, I need to pay my participants so require an email address. I am wondering if anyone know if/how I could extra only email addresses first, followed later by responses so that they no longer have an email address attached to them? Many thanks in advance, Erin

Can you issue the same survey to two different mailing lists

Hello I'm hoping someone can help me with a query on survey distributions. I have two email lists that I thought I'd send the same survey to last week. The first list I distributed the survey to worked fine, but on the second list every email bounced. The lists have different fields in terms of sample demographics but they do both have email address. Would that make a difference? Is it possible to send the same survey to two different mailing lists? If it isn't possible, then the only way around this that I can think of is to duplicate the survey and send each list its own survey link. Is that right, or is there another way? Thanks Lisa

Export survey as txt file

I'm trying to create a survey import template (.txt) that we can quickly edit then load to improve survey development turnaround time. I'd like to include things like library questions, authenticators, formatting, etc. I was thinking I could just export one of our existing surveys to use as a starting point.

Piped text - modifying

I’m fairly new to Qualtric and seeking some advice. I have a side-by-side question with 3 statements (home, friends, pub) with 1 col with 6 responses (never to everyday). I want to ‘pipe’ the response (never to everyday) to the statement into the next question. Eg, In the side-by-side question (Q1), if a person selects ‘everyday’ (response) for the first statement, which is ‘at home’, the next question is: (Q2) Thinking about a usual drinking occasion when you are drinking {‘everyday’} at home, how much would you usually drink? My problem is I can’t seem to work out how to pipe in the column ‘response’ into Q2. When I go to Q2, I click on ‘Piped Text…’, then ‘Survey Question’, then my Q1, and all the options are based on the statements, and I can’t figure out how to pipe the response. Do I need to build my own code for something like this? For example, if I selected ‘every day – selected choices’ from the list available under Q1 (via piped text… menu), all the statements a

How to randomize 89 items within a block and over 6 randomized blocks?

I have a 89-item scale (Using a matrix-question type) that has to be completely randomized. As these are a lot of items especially for mobile version, I would like to put them on more than one page (e.g. 6 blocks), so users do not have to scroll the whole time. I already randomized blocks over the survey flow, but I cannot randomize the items also over the pages. Is there a way to randomize the items over multiple blocks, for example with java script? Embedded data from multiple responses.

I am using a survey as an audit. Each question is yes or no but I have a text entry box to explain the reason the auditor choose "no". I want to pull all "no" responses into one embedded field. I have done that and it works great. The problem is I want to separate the responses with a ";". Unless all responses are no, I get a lot of erroneous ;;;;;'s because they are hard-coded. How do I have only one ; separator presuming there are only a couple of wrong answers? I know it's going to be simple but I cannot put my finger on it.

Recode "Topics" from the text analysis tool into numeric values/a numeric variable

Hi there, I do have a question regarding the text analysis tool and reporting options in the RC. We want to use the text analysis tool to code open answers and it works super well. I also noticed that I can display the shares in the reporting section. However, I was wondering if it is possible to convert the "topics" into numeric values to use it for further analysis/ in the crosstabs section etc. I tried to create a new variable by bucketing the recoded values into a new variable. Unfortunately, even though I have just numbers in there, it's still a string variable. Is there any option/workaround to tackle this? Looking forward to your feedback.

Response ID for external Link

Hi everyone Im doing my master thesis on qualtrics and after the survey a short Intelligence test from an external survey. To assign the Qualtrics subject Data with the extern survey Data of each subject, I need to insert some kind of Response ID into my URL. https://ww2.unipark.de/uc/M_Heydasch/94b7/?a=&b=&c=weinhardt URL Parameter "a" & "b" are free to choose, for assigning the subjects datas. Anyone has an idea how the correct link should look like? Recode Values VS Question Export Tags

Hello Everyone, Just wanted to clarify the function of recode values VS Question Export Tags. As per my understanding, the recode values are data which is going to be seen in the data file while Question Export tags set the name of the question in the data file. However, my query is if we change recode value of any option then the logic based on this option further in the survey needs to be adjusted or it is going to be automatically adjusted. Similarly, for Question Export Tags, if we change/modify this field for any option, do we need to take care of the logic based on this option further in the survey. Is there a way to randomize blocks but keep constant blocks within the randomization?

Hello, First time poster so forgive me if I'm not asking this correctly... I'm making a survey in which I want participants to see 12 randomized blocks. As they're going through the survey I want them to be able to keep track of how many blocks they've gone through (in addition to the progress bar). There's a lot of content they have to go through, so I'm hoping that telling them that they'll go through 12 and letting them know which number they're on will help keep them oriented. Is there a way set it up so that I'll have constant blocks telling them their progress within the actual content blocks that are randomized? Something like: "You're on block 1" > see one of the randomized 12 blocks > "You're on block 2" > see the second randomized block of 12 > "You're on block 3" > etc. There are 12 randomized blocks and I want them to evenly see all 12. So the blocks keeping track of the block number they're on will stay constant but the block they see next (with the actu

Qualtrics security

I need to know what security measures are in place on Qualtrics for purposes of submitting an IRB application. We are using Qualtrics as our survey distribution platform that will be accessible to our research participants. This is my first time using Qualtrics as a survey administrator and I cannot find information on the answers to these questions and I'm hoping that the community can help me. These are the questions: 1. Does the software provide a record that captures that a respondent has consented to the survey before survey initiation? [The software being Qualtrics.] 2. Are there controls in place to prevent a respondent from accidentally entering survey data via the http protocol instead of the https protocol (i.e., does the server display an error message or automatically re-route the respondent to an https page)? 3. Does the survey tool use https encryption? 4. Is the respondent’s IP address masked for the researcher? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated!!

Query regarding Advance Randomization

Hi Everyone, We have created a question with just the images as an option, but while applying the advance randomization we are unable to see any text as we implemented just the images. Later on, we have inserted <img> along with 'alt' tag to setup the images so that we can see the text in advance randomization but still the same problem persist. We checked this with support team and they suggest to add the text with the same font color as that of theme background. We tried this, but while hovering the options, the back ground color changes which will create problem. Is there any suggestion on this so that we can see the text in advance randomization? How to populate choices to a question for a specific user

Hi everyone, I am a new user to Qualtrics, building my first survey. I have a file in excel that contains many columns, but among those columns are username, email, and installed software. I have already uploaded the file using contact list. The file contains many duplicates with the same username and email, however, different installed software. How do I make it so that one user with multiple installed software appears once that shows all the installed software they are using? Also, I want a question to ask whether they are still using the installed software. How do I make it so that each user only sees the particular software they have installed when they take the survey? So in the attached file, I have user ABC appearing twice with two different installed software. How do I make it so ABC sees Tableau and Alteryx and user DEF sees Qualtrics? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you

Exclusive option in Carry forward

When I was carry forwarding a response list from a question to another, the exclusive option present in the previous question is not appearing exclusive in the question where we have applied carry forward. Is there any way to do this. I tried to add a new option but it is always appearing at the top above carry forwarded options but i need to show exclusive option at the end so this work around is also not working. Please help me on this.

How best do I export a copy of my Qualtrics survey to be included in an appendix of a report.

Hi, I have developed a survey for the purpose of data collection within the context of occupational-health research. Due to the complexity of occupational histories of the potential participants, the survey is made up of 180+ questions across 27 blocks (however each participant may only view a small proportion of these question based on previous responses). The questionnaire works well by extensive use of display and branch logic, carry forward statements and scale points, and piped text. The problem arises when it comes time to include a copy of the questionnaire in the appendix of an upcoming report or research publication. The 'Export Survey to Word...' leaves produces a long document which includes piped text for most of the answers - this doesn't mean much to be understood for the Qualtrics-naive reader. Is there a more effective way to export or display my questionnaire for this purpose without leading to unnecessary confusion? Thanks, Rex

How to use answers from earlier question responses in later survey questions

Hi! I'm trying to find how I do the following: I have a measure which requests participants to list 5 qualities that they ideally would like to have. The measure then later asks participants to rank themselves against these qualities. Is there a way to pre-fill a matrix-table for them to rank with answers participants have provided from previous questions? If not, are there any other work-arounds that people can think of? Just as a side-note, this is the first time I've used any survey software and so I'm not familiar with some of the language or functionality that may or may not exist. Thank you for your assistance!

Question about a new feature

Hello, I noticed a new feature listed on the Qualtrics Product Update page titled "Contact Import + Distribution Automation" : https://www.qualtrics.com/product-updates/ It says it "Enables research programs to be streamlined through participant data import and survey distributions automation." Does anyone have any additional information about what this feature does and how we access it? Qualtrics support had absolutely no idea.

Allowing back buttons with embedded data between blocks

Hi Is there any way to allow using the back butoon when I have embedded data between blocks? I must have the embedded data at the end of each block, because I have a test with several sub-topics, each topic in a page, and at the end of the page the user gets the results of the scoring ("You answered 4 questions correctly..") - I want to have this spearate for each section, so I need to store the current scoring number in a variable, and then substract it in the next block report. So I'm using embedded data that store the socring result minus the previous blocks soting results. But I really want to use the back buttons so that users would be able to navigate between sub-sections... Is there anyway to bypass this limitation? Thanks!
