Pipe A Multiple Choice question selection separately into a block | XM Community
Skip to main content

Good Afternoon,

We are trying to take a question like :  Select which sports you have played:

  1. basketball
  2. Soccer
  3. Swimming

and then Send those answers to a block of questions FOR EACH answer.

Right now, I can only seem to get all selected answers for the block.

Hoping I do not have to create a new block and for each possible answer and then branch out from there..

Help?!

I am a total noob to Qualtrics so please excuse my ignorance.

@RRobinson2191,

You can use a Loop & Merge block based on the selected choices in your multi-select MC question.  The questions in the block will be asked for each of the selected choices.

TomG-  Thanks for reply.  When I try to use a Loop and Merge on the block- I can only seem to get all selected answers and only trigger the block once.

How would I go about settings up the Loop and Merge to be able to select single answers from the MC question. And then pipe into the block questions?

For instance:  User selects basketball and soccer.

They need to answer three questions about basketball and soccer.

Sorry for being dense, Im as green as they come for this platform.

Thanks

@RRobinson2191 :

follow these steps for your ease.

you want to branch to different sets of questions based on the selected answers to a multiple-choice question, you can use Skip Logic.

    1. Create your multiple-choice question where respondents can select the sports they have played.
    2.    After creating your question, go to the “Survey Flow” section.
    3.    Click on the question block that follows your multiple-choice question.
    4.    On the right side, you’ll see “Add a New Element Here.” Click on it and select “Branch.”
    5.    Set up branching logic. For each answer option (e.g., basketball, soccer, swimming), you can specify where the respondent should be directed if they select that option.

For example, if they select “basketball,” you can set a branch that directs them to a block of questions specific to basketball. If they select “soccer,” you can set another branch for soccer-related questions, and so on.

When you set up your loop & merge block, you would check ‘Loop based off a question’ and select your MC question - selected choices.  The first loop field will become the answers to the MC question and the loop will repeat for each selected question. You can pipe the “sport” into your questions as ${lm://Field/1}.
